After another eight hours in the air, we're finally in Nairobi. With the two hour time change, travel pretty much wiped out this day, with it now just after 11 pm.
I'm always impressed with the efficiency of large European airports, like London Heathrow, Amsterdam Schipol, Frankfurt. Rather than trying to park all the planes at gates and deal with backing them up, they just park them in rows out on the tarmac and use a bus to transport you from the gate to the plane. Here's our US made Boeing 777 in London, waiting to take us to Nairobi. It was a bit more interesting in Nairobi, where we had to deplane on the stairs, then climb three flights of stairs to get into the terminal and clear customs. Thanks to Naomi, we had a relatively short passport control line, and didn't need to stand in the much longer visa line prior to customs.
8:30 tomorrow morning, our driver Jimmy will take us back to the Nairobi airport for our short flight out to Malindi and the Turtle Bay Beach Hotel where the conference is being held.
Good luck to wave two - you'll be heading to the airport in less than six hours to repeat the trip we just took. The Premier Inn we stayed at in London was convenient to the train (maybe too convenient - heard trains running at night, but still slept through the night.) Kyle, Sarah and Bekah had the english breakfast for 7 1/2 pounds each. Tim, Susan and I walked over to a local pastry shop and had breakfast for the three of us for less than 7 pounds total for all three of us. To Earls Court - all you need is a 3.50 pound Zone 2-6 pass from Heathrow. We got a off peak day pass to cover our trip into London and back for dinner. Fairview had a driver waiting for us - easy transfer in Nairobi.
I have a new nickname - Don - the team will tell why - but needless to say Don got the free wifi needed in Heathrow to post our London blog entry. Fairview has free wifi, so we're set til we go to Turtle Bay.
Keep praying for us - all your prayers have helped us have smooth travels thus far.
Joe G.
