The journey before "The Journey"

So it's my first time to Africa. I'm so excited! But what a process to get there!! Less than a week away after months of prep and my list of things to do isn't getting any shorter. Every time I mark one thing off another thing gets put on. Of course the list will soon be done, by definition, in only a few days, whether everything is really done or not. Thank goodness, just an e-ticket and my ID will get me on the plane, and not a fully checked off list of things to do.

I think my favorite prep item so far is having to count my malaria pills to make sure they gave me all they should have. Please!! When Susan shared what happened to her I just had to laugh (sorry Susan). I know it's one more thing for my list, but it's just all part of the prep God has for us before we go. Don't sweat the small stuff and apply Phil 4:6-7. What am amazing thing - the peace of Christ! What an amazing promise! The well-known phrase goes, "the devil is in the details". I'm convinced that God is really the one in the details. He cares about it all. And I can totally trust Him! Even while making sure I have a VISA debit card (not MasterCard!) and getting enough shots in one day to qualify me as a human pin cushion.

I'm so looking forward to being able to serve the families that serve as full-time missionaries. Especially the Wicks family, that our church supports. Family supporting family! Plus I get to work along side a great team of people that love the Lord and are fun. Except Joe. He's really fun. Which Joe? Not saying.

I've been on a few short term mission trips before. All of them have stretched my faith. This one will be no different. I'm excited to serve, but I know that my ability to do so is completely in the power and strength of the Lord. My prayer is that we will provide an environment for the kids to learn, have fun, and strengthen their walk with God. It's a sure bet that's what the Lord is planning for me (and our Kenya team) too. In fact, it's already happening, as we have trusted Him during the journey before "The Journey" to Kenya.

  1. Hi Becky Thank you for sharing and reminding me to pray and trust I even have Phil 4:6-7 on the frig. It is one of my life's verse. I had to laugh though because as I was getting my pills straighten out. I picked up wipes and antibacterial hand sanitizer thinking I needed probiotic stomach stuff, too. Oh boy the places your head can go!
